Imago Theatre opens its 2023 year with Conor McPherson's acclaimed The Seafarer.
Holiday drinks. High stakes poker. And, the Devil.
Conor McPherson's mid-career masterpiece The Seafarer (opening March 9 and playing
through March 26) is a Christmas fable that never goes out of season. A tale of redemption,
McPherson's high-stakes comedy involves poker playing, binge drinking, and unstable brotherly
love. And unlike previous McPherson revivals by Imago – the Hitchcockian The Birds and the
spooky Shining City – The Seafarer doesn't simply allude to dark forces outside the world as we
know it. This time, the Devil himself has a hand in the game.
From Thurs Mar. 9 to Sun., Mar. 26, at Imago Theatre, 17 SE 8th Ave., Thu., Fri., Sat. at 7:30;
Sun. at 2:00. All seats are $20. Recommended for 16 and older. Masks required.
Raves on The Seafarer:
"Mr. McPherson is considering the impenetrable, scary mystery that is being alive.... The
liveliest, funniest dialogue yet written by Mr. McPherson." - The New York Times
"McPherson proves yet again he is both a born yarn-spinner and an acute analyst of melancholy
Irish manhood." - The Guardian
This new production also finds director Jerry Mouawad reuniting with the design team that
worked alongside him on his previous McPherson outings, with Jon Farley on lights, Myrrh
Larsen on sound, and Alex Meyer overseeing the scenic elements. The cast includes Chris
Brantley, Danny Bruno, Sean Doran, Jeff Giberson, and Tory Mitchell.
