Artistic Co-director Jerry Mouawad will stage a large ensemble movement/text/new performance work about a group of inmates in an institution who are propelled to perform a series of Baudelaire poems (from Paris Spleen.) Mouawad staged two Baudelaire pieces this last summer in Imago’s Soiree #1. “The response from the two poems was high. Thus I’ve decided to delve further into Baudelaire. I am staging 7 to 10 poems, but the fascinating exploration will be discovering who is performing these works – are they prisoners, patients, artists, or workers? In Paris Spleen Baudelaire travels in three primary areas – Paris, his own views of art and himself as an artist, and the world of the mythological. While I investigate these three realms, I will be searching for the identity of the space and the inhabitants of this space. |
